This book is the direct result of many tough conversations that have come from helping first-generation college students make the transition to and through college. Author Michael Johnson holds his bachelor's degree in history and teaching credential through George Mason University. He also has a master's in business administration through National University. Michael currently teaches economics and Advanced Placement geography at Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, California. A servant at heart, Michael is a member of Pathways Community Church and resides in Santee, California, with his wife and four children.

If only I would have had this book before I started college! It's short but sweet, and since we know how short some of our kids' attention spans are, it's great it is as compact as it is!
That is not to say it does not have in depth information as to how to navigate college. The points contained are absolutely vital so that no young adult can make detrimental, life-altering decisions. As a Christian, it is important to prepare our children for the "big-bad world", and this manual warns them of some of the major challenges they will face. It will deter them from making decisions they will regret for the rest of their lives. It is a must-have for all kids heading off to college. Get it!
This book is full of truth and excellent advice written in a down to earth, easy to read way that will not make any young person feel left out. I would strongly suggest this book for a first year college student class at a Christian College or for a Bible study for senior year high school students before leaving home for college. The book is written in a college text type format, and would be easier to use in a group study than in an individual setting. The study guide that goes along with this manual is an indispensable resource. Should be required reading for eighteen year-olds!
I had the pleasure of helping Mr. Johnson edit this Novel. Though I never went to college I found this Novel very interesting and a great read. I will re-read the Time Management chapter again soon.
I also loved the chapter on Dating and Marriage. I only wish this book was a must read for any and all students as they enter their last few years of high school. I know the Novel is about college, but there are several chapters that could help any young man or woman, see things in a better light as they journey into their future.
Mr. Johnson must be a great teacher, and his abilities as a writer is not lacking either. The fact that he uses God's word to back up his thoughts and teachings only is a plus in my book. If you know someone that will be graduating soon, and or heading off, you should really consider buying them this book.

I have a daughter that will be starting starting college in about two years. I have your College Field Manual on my and have enjoyed it. It is faith filled and truthful. Filled with great information. I found it very insightful. It made me think back to my early days, and what I can do now to help my kids going to college in the future. I know my daughter will enjoy reading it too.
I really liked how this book offers a Christian perspective on how to succeed during the college years. It offers helpful advice to the incoming college freshman about how to manage college life, from studying efficiently to making new friends. It also gives good suggestions on easing tensions between parents and students through fostering better communication by more clearly-defined rules set forth by both the parents and the young adult.
In addition, this book offers words of encouragement with some verses from Scripture. It not only helped me become a better person. but also strengthened my faith in trusting God even more. But it is nice that the author does not force religion into the book, but rather uses it for subtle references here and there, so this book can also help non-religious individuals just as effectively.
