"Like Elmore Leonard on speed . . ."
- Lincoln Child
In a debut novel sure to both excite passions and elicit laughter, author Steven M. Forman has created a different kind of hero in a most unlikely criminal hotbed Boca Raton.
Eddie Perlmutter's career as a much-honored Boston cop has come to an end. At sixty, he's still energetic and virile, but decades of harsh New England winters and collaring the pug-uglies of Boston's underworld have taken their toll - especially on his knees. So what does a lonely, retired cop with arthritic knees do? Heads to sunny Florida, of course.
But instead of enjoying a relaxed, laid-back retirement, Eddie quickly discovers the darker side of Boca Raton's endless sun and palm trees, where hate crimes, counterfeiting, and worse lurk beneath the deceptively calm surface of the cushy retirement communities.
With his no-nonsense crime-fighting skills and roll-with-the punches attitude, Eddie hits Boca Raton like of a Nor'easter from Hell, fast, fresh, and unstoppable. A compulsively readable comic thriller with an egalitarian message that will inspire readers of all ages, Boca Knights will have readers in stitches and keep them on the edge of their seats.
"Boca Knights is a can't-put-down read, full of laugh out loud humor, fast paced hijinks, and lore. Part Robert Parker, part Carl Hiaasen, Eddie Perlmutter is a high-testosterone, no-nonsense detective with a tender core, and makes turning sixty a carnal, tropical ride."
- Andrew Gross
"Fast, funny, and incredibly wise . . . a compulsive read that will make you want to live next door to its hero, Eddie Perlmutter, who is without a doubt one of the best new characters to appear on the literary horizon in some years."
- Gayle Lynds
"Steve Forman strafes the south Florida scene with Boca Knights, an outrageously funny mystery novel with a raft of offbeat characters and prose that moves trippingly off the pen. His main man, Eddie Perlmutter, ex-Boston cop attempting semi-retirement in Boca Raton like a fish trying to retire out of the water, is a character for the ages. Carl Hiaasen, watch your back."
- Douglas Preston
"Ever wonder what would happen if you crossed Philip Roth with Elmore Leonard? This impressive crime debut novel provides a hint. . . . An entertaining mix of comedy and drama."
- Booklist
"Mystery fans who like their operatives macho with an offbeat sense of humor will certainly enjoy this book and look forward to the next in the series."
- Library Journal

Following the main character's story was entirely entertaining. Steven Forman has made Eddie Perlmutter a delightful and very human character with both positive and negative traits, yet I love Eddie's odd sense of humor, his fearlessness, and his sense of justice. Read the book. You'll thoroughly enjoy it.Product details

Boca Knights edition by Steven M Forman Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
One of the better south Florida books I have read. Good characterization with a subtle description of the scenes. As a published author i enjoy reading books that are a cut above average with a complex plot and good mix of crimes and characters with the good guys winning. Taken out of a Zane Grey playbook. Good job Steven. Thanks for a good read. L Lee Parmeter Biloxi, MS
Fabulous characters with humor and wit that tell an important story. The author is genius, building a Tory so intriguing that you will hate to stop reading. The New York Jewish humor is priceless. Great book!
Loved this book. Good adventure and detective action which moved the story well. His ongoing input from Mr. Johnson was humorous and entertaining. There were times I laughed out loud . I enjoyed myself!!
Steven Forman was recommended to me, and I am paying it forward - I am on his last novel now (Boca Daze), having read them ALL in a week! He is smart, funny, and a terrific writer.
The first novel in what I hope becomes a long series. The novel starts with a Prologue that introduces the protagonist, Eddie Perlmutter, by way of his grandfather (as a fifteen-year-old Russian orphan), then the story actually begins in first-person. Any fictional character in any novel will share similarities with characters from other novels, but Eddie Perlmutter is not an attempted clone of anyone else's character; he's a three-dimensional character, convincingly drawn. A fair amount of the first few chapters is given over to introducing his back-story before the novel's main plot is introduced, but the back-story is essential, it's entertaining, and it creates a very likable protagonist.
The story, then, is well crafted, each element put carefully in place and used with precision and elegance. I'm looking forward to reading more of Eddie Perlmutter's adventures.
I have just begun the 3rd story by Steven Forman and hope he is busy writing, typing or dictating his next 300 books....I will read every 1 of them.
Funny? You bet! Relatable...especially his take on the Seniors in Florida? Absolutely! My Parents eventually settled in an area close to Boca and every street, road and shopping area is authentic...as are the folks who live there. Here's to YOU, Boca Knight!
I liked this book. It had quirky characters, an offbeat, to say the least, protagonist, and several LOL paragraphs with many of the dialogues between characters provoking smiles. What it also had was a meandering plot, or rather two meandering plots. Forman is more than a competent wordsmith, but several conversations in the book seemed to be solely for the purpose of amusing the reader without any attempt to advance either plot. In fact, I read a full third of the novel before Eddie Perlmutter gets into the grist of the murder of a senior citizen by golf club. The grist, however, turned out to be more like one of those "you solve it before I tell you" mystery short stories. The second plot, which the reader actually gets into about half of the way through the novel is quite relevant to what is going on in America today, and probably would have stood alone as the raison d'etre for the novel. Bottom Line I would definitely read another novel by Steven Forman, BUT, note to author keep Eddie Perlmutter as the protagonist, keep his wisecracks and witty dialogues with his penis, keep bringing back those cantankerous senior citizens and quirky larcenous buds of Eddie, JUST TIGHTEN UP THE PLOT LINE A TAD..
Following the main character's story was entirely entertaining. Steven Forman has made Eddie Perlmutter a delightful and very human character with both positive and negative traits, yet I love Eddie's odd sense of humor, his fearlessness, and his sense of justice. Read the book. You'll thoroughly enjoy it.
