Successful underwear model Scott Ashworth is lucky—his attack at the hands of an unknown assailant will leave no visible scars. His professional goals are still within reach, and best of all, his stepbrother Rylan Mahoney is back in his life, their teenage infatuation at last getting the chance to deepen into something more. Thrown together by the circumstances of Scott's injury, Rylan's long-dormant feelings for him are quickly rekindled, though he's haunted by the memory of Scott's disappearance on the night of his eighteenth birthday and the six missing years that followed. Rylan pushes Scott for the truth, a firm believer in the maxim that secrets lose their power once they're shared—but resurrecting old demons almost always comes with a price. Before Scott knows it, his life is spiraling out of control, his toxic insecurities welling up to threaten the fragile relationship he's building with Rylan. Learning to let go of the past and believe in himself will be Scott's greatest challenge, or else he risks losing Rylan forever this time.

See My Words Melanie Hansen Books Reviews
Wow! What an emotional roller-coaster! See My Words is just as hard—if not harder—to get through as Pieces of Me book one, in the Spectrum Nights series by Melanie Hansen.
I couldn't wait to jump back in to see where Scott and Rylan were in their relationship, or if they even had one, and to say it was frustrating and emotional would be an understatement.
Scott is a damaged and broken man, who still clings desperately to his past, and his old insecurities are constantly fighting for dominance over every good thing that happens to him. No matter what Rylan tells him—or shows him—in the way of love or acceptance he can't see past his doubts.
Their relationship is push and pull, Scott doing most of the pushing, while Rylan tries to take on all of the responsibility of making sure Scott knows he is enough in every way, but it's not working which leads to more pushing. This time pushing Rylan away... maybe for good.
God!! See My Words is beyond freaking beautiful at times and so angst-ridden others. Melanie Hansen writes beautifully and so painfully real while bringing her characters through heaps of massive spiritual and emotional awakenings but on the other side wow...magnificent.
This is about second chances, finding your balance and even though Scott was very unhealthy, mentally, he finally took the steps to start healing himself. I loved this part of the book and the revelations he made, not only about himself but about his past and future.
See My Words has very mature themes. Scott and Rylan are very open and honest in their relationship and if they want to add another person, they go for it. It's also very sex positive and I loved their time on the streets, talking with the workers and how no one was ever shamed or looked down upon for their way of survival. Only respect and concern.
I need to mention the wonderful cast of secondary characters that helped to truly make this story shine and that was Minh and Chris. Two characters that—at first glance—I was skeptical and leery of, but in no time at all, adored wholeheartedly and hope to see their story very, very soon.
See My Words should not be read as a standalone in order to fully understand Scott's journey, his back history and the struggles he must overcome. He has a hard road and a lot of self-doubts but understanding his own self-worth, realizing he doesn't need validation from others, puts him on the right path towards a bright and prosperous future surrounded by people who love him for him.
Amazing series that I highly recommend.
4.5 Stars so rounding up
If I thought this was going to be an easier read than book 1, I was sorely mistaken. While the angst was different, it was no less painful. The writing again is superb. The plot complicated yet sophisticated and the characterization outstanding. This is not a standalone so if you haven’t read Pieces of Me, you need to read that first.
The bottom line with Scott is Heather pretty much broke him. Having heard all his life he’s a worthless piece of nothing has completely and totally ruined him. He needs help. Unfortunately it takes hitting rock bottom – again – for him to realize he (and Rylan) can’t continue the way their going. Their relationship is cyclical and dangerous. I do believe they are soul mates. I do believe they love each other and need each other (in a healthy way) but it is hard to watch them struggle through the relationship until it breaks and Scott realizes he just needs help. It hurt to see Rylan blind to his enabling of Scott’s behavior. He is the right person for Scott and can see through to the heart of Scott but he wasn’t helping Scott get what he needed to heal. I loved seeing the beginning of the healing. I love the growth and maturity of both men and their discoveries off the direction they want to take their lives. I believe they have what it takes to be happy together forever and I hope we see more of that.
The supporting cast was great – even the antagonists (and there were a few). Corey made me grind my teeth repeatedly …his characterization as a peddler of the beautiful ones is true to life and I hated it. Minh is as fierce and fabulous as in PoM and Chris surprises us by being a rock steady, complex and amazing man.
I still have some questions that need to be answered and there are a couple of dangling plotlines that need completion so I’m hoping we’re not done with this cast of characters.
